Sexual violence is one of the most common serious crimes.
However, only about 6 out of every 100 sexual assaults are reported to police. This is significantly less than for other violent crimes – such as robbery, and physical assault. There is a stigma attached to sexual violence that promotes a lack of communication.
In Northwestern Ontario, our communities and neighbourhoods are made up of some of the most at-risk youths in the country. Sexual violence victims can be more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol as a way of coping with their assault. Some will experience depression, and in the worst cases, become suicidal. There is a community here that wants to help you.
